Fall Hearst Lecture Series Focuses on Young Design Professionals

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design’s Hearst Lecture Series continues Friday, Nov. 4, with a free talk by San Francisco designer Elias Crouch.

This fall’s Hearst Lecture Series has adopted the theme "40 Below" because it features young professionals under the age of 40.

Crouch, of Future Invisible, will speak at 4:30 p.m. in the Rotunda of the business building on campus. His multi-faceted company provides graphics for businesses, designs surf boards and works on projects in the film industry.

The series will continue with a joint lecture by Larry Scarpa and LEED-certified architect Angela Brooks, both of the architecture office of Pugh + Scarpa, on Feb. 3, at 4:30 pm in the Rotunda. Scarpa and Brooks focus their designs on affordable housing and sustainability, and both work with the non-profit organization, Livable Places Inc.

Members of local architecture and design firms are invited to attend the lectures, along with the general public. The Hearst Lecture Series brings internationally respected design professionals to Cal Poly to speak, visit classrooms and critique student design projects. The series is supported by a grant from the Hearst Foundation. For more information, call the College of Architecture and Environmental Design at (805) 756-1311.
