Cal Poly Choirs To Perform Fall Debut Concert Oct. 29
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- The Cal Poly Choirs will perform their annual Fall Debut Concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, in Harman Hall in the Christopher Cohan Center on campus. Subtitled "We Dream A World," the 110 members of the choirs will perform works that speak of peace and joy.
The 70-voice University Singers will begin the program with works
by David Childs, W. A. Mozart, Mack Wilberg and Pablo Casals, as
well as an arrangement of the well-known French tongue-twister "Ton
Thé," by Susan Brumfield.
PolyPhonics will perform works by René Clausen, Michael Haydn,
Vincent Persichetti, Felix Mendelssohn, Lili Boulanger, and a traditional
spiritual, "Let Me Fly," arranged by Robert DeCormier.
The barbershop quartets, the a cappella group "Take It SLO," and several outstanding solo vocalists will also perform. In addition, Cal Poly's Early Music Ensemble will give its premiere performance during the concert.
The evening will conclude with the combined choirs singing the theme piece, "I Dream A World," by André Thomas and Keith McCutchen's arrangement of "Amazing Grace."
Music Professor Thomas Davies, director of choral activities at Cal Poly, will lead the choirs with the assistance of music senior Melody Svennungsen. Accompanists for the choirs are Paul Woodring, Susan Azaret Davies and Patrick Christians.
Tickets to the recital are $13 and $15 for the public, $12 and $14 for seniors and $8 for students. They can be bought at the Performing Arts Ticket Office 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. To order by phone, call SLO-ARTS (756-2787).
