Cal Poly Student Film Showing in Chicago Filipino American Film Festival

CHICAGO - A feature-length romantic comedy created by a team of Cal Poly students and alumni will be screened at the Chicago Filipino American Film Festival 2005 in November.

The film, "Leave it to Chance," was filmed in and around San Luis Obispo in 2004-05 and premiered on campus in spring 2005. The film was the senior project of several Cal Poly students, now graduates, and the Cal Poly Film Club. The group -- comprised primarily of Filipino-American students -- wrote, produced, directed, acted and promoted the independent film.

The festival runs from Nov. 3-6 at the Chopin Theatre in Chicago, with "Leave it to Chance" premiering on Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. Many cast and crew members, including alumnus and film director Bernard Badion and cast member Stephen Heraldo (who plays the role of Charlie), will be attending in celebrating the film's first acceptance to a national film festival.

The film will be amongst other notable Filipino feature films, including "Cavite," "Slow Jam King," "La Visa Loca," "Panaghoy Sa Suba," "Pinoy/Blonde," and "Blue Hour."

Tickets and additional information about CFAFF can be found on its website at www.cfaff.org. For more information about "Leave It To Chance," visit www.leaveittochance.info.

The students financed the $15,000 romantic from preproduction to postproduction. The finances were largely underwritten by Director Badion and Cinematographer Benjamin Kantor, with additional support from fund-raisers and donations from businesses and other sponsors.

After the Chicago premiere, the students are financing and planning several California screenings of "Leave it to Chance" in small theatres at local colleges. Details on future screenings can be found on the film's Web site.
