Cal Poly University Jazz Bands To Perform Fall Concert Dec. 2

SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly University Jazz Bands’ annual Fall Jazz concert, featuring music by Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker and John Coltrane, is planned for 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 2, in Cal Poly’s Spanos Theatre.

“Surprise, spontaneity and a fresh look at jazz are in store for music lovers attending the concert,” said music faculty member Paul Rinzler, director of the University Jazz Bands and jazz combo.

The concert will “demonstrate the next generation’s novel approach to America’s great original art form, as two big bands and two jazz combos perform Latin, funk, traditional, and modern jazz,” Rinzler said.

Tickets for the concert are $10 for the public, $8 for senior citizens and Jazz Federation members, and $6 for students. They are on sale at the Performing Arts Ticket Office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. To order by phone, call SLO-ARTS (756-2787).

Patrons who buy season tickets to four Music Department events through the Performing Arts Ticket office will receive a 10 percent discount; a 15 percent discount is given to shoe who buy tickets to five or more events.

The concert is sponsored by Cal Poly's Music Department, College of Liberal Arts and Instructionally Related Activities program. For more information, call the Music Department at 756-2406.
