Student Musical Ensemble To Stage Modern-Day Opera At Cal Poly May 31, June 2
SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly Music Department student production ensemble RSVP will stage productions of “Anamnesis,” on Tuesday, May 31, and Thursday, June 2. Both shows will be at 8 p.m. in the Pavilion in the Performing Arts Center on campus.
Anamnesis means remembrance, and as that title implies, this 10th RSVP performance examines the vital role memory plays in our lives, said Antonio G. Barata, artistic director and producer of the series. “A montage of scenes employing a variety of performance media will excite and entertain, all the while calling the audience to ponder that deeper and more substantive meaning.
“‘Anammnesis’ distinguishes itself from past
RSVP productions with its introspection, its concentration on the
dark and often unspoken concerns of humankind. Lighting is often
extreme. Subtlety gives way to expression. This is not a play; there
is no ‘story.’ Rather, it is an invitation to uncover
the burdens of the past, to refresh in the beauty of the present,
to renew hope in the future,” Barata said.
As with all RSVP productions, Anamnesis will be a transmedia concert,
which “celebrates electroacoustic diversity and compositional
risk,” Barata said.
Tickets are $10 and may be ordered online at www.pacslo.org or by calling 756-2787. The show is sponsored by Cal Poly’s College of Liberal Arts and Music Department. For more information, call the Music Department at 756-2406.
