SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Comedian, television and film producer Shann Carr will appear in a free performance at Cal Poly on Friday, May 20.
The event is part of the university's CommUnity Pride Friday, sponsored
by Cal Poly's Pride Alliance LGBT Center, GLBU and ASI Student Government.
Community members are invited to the event, which starts with a
free barbeque at 5 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. performance by Carr.
Both activities will be held at the Performing Arts Center, room
124.
With 20 years of gay standup experience, comedian Carr has an informal, storytelling style Since 2000, Carr has been the sole lesbian entertainer on over 20 Atlantis cruises. As she says, "That's right: 2000 gay men, and me, on a boat! My mom was worried sending me out to sea. She consoled herself by guessing that if there were problems, women and children would get off first."
Carr is also the Executive Producer of GirlMoxie Studios. Since 1990 she has produced a series of live shows, TV and film, all under the title, "Out For Laughs." Recently GirlMoxie released "Out for Laughs on the Ocean," a 'docu-comedy' that follows three comedians (a drag queen, a piano player and a hypnotist) working on the gay cruise ship circuit.
