See Family Favorite 'Junie B. Jones' At the Spanos Theatre April 10
SAN LUIS OBISPO - Cal Poly Arts concludes their season’s popular low-cost Family Event Series with a new musical based on celebrated author Barbara Park’s irrepressible character, Junie B. Jones.
On Sunday, April 10, 2005 in a special 3 p.m. matinee at the Spanos Theatre, TheatreworksUSA performs “Junie B. Jones,” adapted from the books by Barbara Parks.
Adapted for the stage by Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich ("Dear
Edwina,"
“Taylor the Latte Boy”), outspoken, precocious, lovable
Junie B. Jones stars in a colorful, funny, fast-paced musical about
new friends, new glasses, sugar cookies, the annual kickball tournament,
and other various first-grade angst-ridden situations.
Young children and their families can delightfully follow Junie’s adventures as she writes down the story of her life in her “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal.”
The new musical is based on four volumes in Barbara Park’s “Junie B. Jones” series of books, illustrated by Denise Brunkus and published by Random House: “Junie B, First Grader (at Last!),” “Junie B, Boss of Lunch,” “Junie B, One-Man Band,” and “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax: A Journal by Junie B (and Me!).”
The TheatreworksUSA production is directed by Peter Flynn (performer in Broadway’s “The Scarlet Pimpernel”) and the choreography is by Devanand Janki (Off-Broadway: “Zanna Don’t” and “Cupid & Psyche”). The scenic design is by Luke Hegel-Cantarella (TheatreworksUSA’s Corduroy), and the costumes are by Lora LaVon.
This hour-long musical is recommended for ages Pre-K to Grade 3.
TheatreworksUSA is America's largest professional not-for-profit theatre for family audiences, providing young audiences with their first taste of the performing arts and giving young actors, writers, directors, and designers an early opportunity to work in this field.
