Comedian Rob Becker Brings Battle of the Sexes to Cohan Center April 6
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA -- A peacemaker in the ongoing misunderstandings between men and women, comedian Rob Becker will bring his wildly popular “Defending the Caveman,” a one-man comedy show, to the Performing Arts Center's Christopher Cohan Center April 6.
The show has been an unqualified hit around the country. "Hysterically funny! Becker made me laugh until I had tears rolling down my cheeks." (Variety) “So perceptive, so witty, so sweetly understanding, you can’t help feeling exhilarated!” (Boston Globe) "In Becker’s hands the fireworks of the sexual revolution have been melted into friendly fire." (Chicago Sun Times)
Cal Poly Arts brings the affectionate comedy, starring Isaac Lamb, to the Christopher Cohan Center for one night only, Wednesday, April 6, at 8 p.m.
After running for two and a half years with 702 performances at New York's Helen Hayes Theater, “Caveman” entered the record books as the longest-running solo play in Broadway history.
With humorous insights on contemporary feminism, and masculine sensitivity, Becker's insightful play examines the ways men and women struggle to relate and has both sexes in the audience roaring with laughter and recognition.
Becker’s “Defending the Caveman” originally opened in San Francisco in June 1991. The show soon moved to Dallas for a full year run and then went on to extended sold-out engagements in Washington DC, Philadelphia, and Chicago before opening on Broadway in March 1995.
“Caveman” is currently touring throughout the United States and Canada and has been performed before over three million people worldwide in over 20 countries in 15 different languages.
In 1999, Becker received the coveted Olivier Award in London for comedic playwriting. Becker also has a loyal following in the therapy community, with his play having been seen and recommended by thousands of psychologists and counselors. In 1996 Becker was invited to the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy convention in Toronto, where he performed for over 2,000 therapists.
Tickets for the performance range from $32 - $44, with student discounts available, and may be purchased at the Performing Arts Ticket Office, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
