More Than 50 Wineries to Participate in April 30 Benefit
For Cal Poly Viticulture Program

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- More than 50 wineries from across California and a dozen Central Coast restaurants will be featured at the annual "Afternoon Amidst the Oaks" wine tasting Friday, April 30, to benefit the new Cal Poly wine and viticulture degree program.

The event is organized by the students of the Cal Poly Vines to Wines Club and will be held from 3-6 p.m. at the Santa Margarita Ranch vineyards just north of San Luis Obispo.

In addition to fine wines and gourmet food, "An Afternoon Amidst the Oaks" will feature student-made Cal Poly Chocolates, fresh fruit and produce from the university's organic farm.

Proceeds will go to the Cal Poly viticulture major and to support the program's ultimate goal of starting a university micro-winery, said club member and event volunteer Molly Strobel.

"We're encouraging Cal Poly alumni, students, staff, faculty, the local community, and any out- of-town visitors to attend - anyone who likes fine wines and gourmet food," said Strobel. "This is a unique opportunity for people to taste good wines from all over the state and to pair their wines with foods from Central Coast restaurants."

Featured wineries include Castoro Cellars, Justin, Clos Du Bois, DuckhornVineyards, Herman Story, Laetitia Vineyard and Winery, Wild Horse Winery and Vineyards, Villa Creek Cellars, Eberle Winery, Silver Oak Cellars, Rombauer Vineyards, and ZD Wines.

Participating restaurants include Villa Creek of Paso Robles, Corner View Restaurant and Bar of San Luis Obispo, Giuseppe's of Pismo Beach, In Good Taste Catering of San Luis Obispo and The Inn at Morro Bay.

Tickets are $50 per person or $30 for Cal Poly students, faculty and staff. (All attendees must be at least 21.) To purchase tickets, send a check made out to Cal Poly Vines to Wines Club, Building 82-A San Luis Obispo, 93407, Attn: Ashley Harris. About the Vines to Wines Club
The Vines to Wines Club in the College of Agriculture focuses on educating students about the wine industry of the Central Coast and the state of California. Every meeting features an invited guest from the wine industry, cooperative extension or related industry. The speakers cover such topics as wine production, problems in industry, educational needs, the politics of farming, or they may focus on a topic representing their respective area of expertise. Alumni in the wine-making business accompany members on tours of the wineries and vineyards each spring. The tours provide a unique opportunity for students to view state-of-the-art facilities, as well as to network with successful members of the winemaking industry.
