For College National Rodeo Finals June 12-18

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Cal Poly's Rodeo Team is headed to the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Finals June 12-18 in Casper, Wyo.

"If the results of the rodeo at the University of Nevada Las Vegas are any indication, we will be in true championship form in Wyoming," said Coach Frank Mello. "A lot is on the line. No other intercollegiate rodeo program has produced more individual champions and team championships than Cal Poly."

During the competition May 6-7 at UNLV, three Cal Poly students took first in their competitions, and the Cal Poly team took the West Coast Region lead in Men's and Women's teams, Men's and Women's All-Around, Bareback Riding, Tie Down Roping, Breakaway Roping, and Team Roper Heeling.

Going into next week's competition in Casper, Cal Poly also holds second place in Saddle Bronc Riding, Barrel Racing, and Goat Tying. Among the 10 participating collegiate rodeo programs in the West Coast region, Cal Poly is the only program with a student in the top five in every division.
