Cal Poly Partners With Munich University in New Study Abroad Program

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly was among 10 United States universities chosen to partner with German colleges and universities through a new international study program funded by the German Academic Exchange Service.

The German government will grant start-up funding over the next three years to 10 German institutions of higher education for the new study-abroad programs for American students. The programs were selected by a committee of nine leading study-abroad experts from the U.S. and Germany as part of a recent national competition among many of the top higher education institutions in Germany.

The new programs will be launched in 2006. They will involve students and programs ranging from mechanical engineering and life sciences to music composition and architecture. All will involve three- to ten-week courses taught in English and combined with intensive German language learning at German partner campuses.

The selected institutions will receive three years of seed funding for new programs with their main U.S. partner universities, as well as assistance in creating and marketing the new programs. The 10 German institutions and their U.S. partners are:

  • Munich University of Applied Sciences and California Polytechnic
    State University, San Luis Obispo
  • Berlin Technical University and the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
  • Berlin University of Applied Sciences and City College of New York
  • Freie Universität Berlin and The Juilliard School
  • Hessen Networks at Fulda University of Applied Sciences and the
    University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
  • Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the University of
    Cincinnati
  • Trier University of Applied Sciences and Clemson University
  • University of Bonn Harvard University and the University of
    Wisconsin-Madison
  • University of Kassel and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the
    University of Massachusetts, and Cranbrook Academy of Art
  • University of Leipzig and the University of Chicago
