Emmy Award-Winning Filmmaker to Speak at Cal Poly March 3
SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly Young Democrats club will
bring Saul
Landau, an internationally-known scholar, author, commentator and
Emmy
award-winning filmmaker, to campus on Thursday, March 3.
Landau will speak at 7 p.m. in the Cal Poly Math and Science ‘spider’
building (Building 52), Room B05. He will show his latest short
film,
“Syria: Between Iraq and a Hard Place” and will discuss
US foreign
policy in the Middle East and other areas of the world.
Landau is known for his work on foreign and domestic policy issues,
Native American and South American cultures, and science and technology.
He is an Emmy-winning documentary film maker who has made over 40
films
on social, political and historical issues as well as worldwide
human
rights.
Shannon Ponek, Treasurer of the Cal Poly Young Democrats club,
says that
the group is pleased to bring an author of such stature to campus.
“We
are fortunate that Professor Landau is at Cal Poly Pomona,”
Ponek said.
“We think that he has an important message about consumerism
that both
students and the community will benefit from hearing.”
The event, which is co-sponsored by Democratic Women United, is
open to
the public and Landau’s books will be available for purchase.
