Cal Poly Business Students to Host 10th Annual International Career Conference
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Cal Poly's Orfalea College of Business seniors will host the 10th Annual International Career Conference (ICC), Saturday, Feb. 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo . The event is $5 and open to the public.
The one-day conference, sponsored by Cal Poly's Orfalea College of Business, offers attendees a choice of eight workshops that include such topics as "Surviving the Corporate Jungle" and "Entrepreneur: Self-Made Success."
David M. Carter, founder of The Sports Business Group, will give the keynote address. Following the workshops, attendees are invited to a corporate recruitment session where they can network with more than 30 companies for internships and career opportunities.
Chris Carr, associate dean of Orfalea College of Business graduate programs and faculty development explained, "The ICC provides an excellent opportunity for students, academics and professionals from industry to mutually benefit. The Orfalea College of Business is very proud of how this event has evolved to provide conference participants, and our college students in particular, the opportunity to grow and develop on both a personal and professional level."
"The ICC helps students understand business in today's world, not only domestically, but in the international arena as well," explained Nadia Lee, ICC 2005 executive director. "It also provides students, company representatives and faculty members an opportunity to network and socialize in a professional atmosphere."
The ICC team is comprised of 20 Cal Poly Orfalea College of Business seniors. As part of their senior project, students work with a faculty advisor to plan and implement the entire event.
The students hold an annual auction to finance the conference. They raised nearly $11,000 in October 2004 to support the 2005 conference. Following the auction, students worked with industry speakers, workshop presenters, and company and government recruiters to set the conference agenda.
