Cal Poly Professor, Pianist W. Terrence Spiller to Give Benefit Concert Jan. 7

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Pianist W. Terrence Spiller, chair of Cal Poly’s Music Department, will give a benefit recital of works by Clementi, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Liszt and Prokofieff at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, in the Spanos Theatre at Cal Poly.

Spiller will open the program with Clementi’s Sonata in F-sharp minor, Op. 25, No. 5, followed by Mozart’s Twelve Variations on “Ah, vous dirai-je, Maman,” two of Mendelssohn’s “Songs Without Words,” and “Rondo Capriccioso” in E Major, Op. 14.

Following intermission, Spiller will perform Liszt’s “Benediction de Dieu dans la solitude” from “Harmonies poetique et religieuse,” and Prokofieff’s Sonata No. 7, Op. 83.

Tickets to the recital are $6 for students and senior citizens and $10 for the public. They are on sale at the Performing Arts Ticket Office 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. To order by phone, call SLO-ARTS (756-2787).

Patrons who buy season tickets to four Music Department events through the Performing Arts Ticket Office will receive a 10 percent discount; those who buy tickets to five or more are given a 15 percent discount.
