Cal Poly Fraternities, Sororities to Host
Community Service Events
During Greek Week April 12-21
SAN LUIS OBISPO - Cal Poly's fraternities and sororities are joining forces to hold community service events and fund-raisers during Greek Week, April 12-21.
Cal Poly's 23 fraternities, 10 sororities, and numerous educational and cultural Greek societies will participate in service activities throughout the week, including a canned food drive, community clean-up, and benefit 'lip sync' show.
On April 17, fraternity, sorority and society members will participate in a day of community clean-up work including painting the EOC Homeless Shelter, weeding and maintenance at the San Luis Obispo Botanical Gardens, a wilderness trail workday, and an on-campus clean-up.
On April 19, the Greek groups will sponsor a blood drive on the Cal Poly campus.
On April 20, the annual 'Lip Sync' competition hosted by Alpha Omicron Pi will serve as a benefit for the county food bank; admission is $2 or a canned food item. The Lip Sync competition begins at 6:30 p.m. at The Graduate in San Luis Obispo and is open to the public.
On campus, Greek Week will kick off April 12 in the Cal Poly Theatre with two presentations by motivational speaker Rick Barnes. The presentations are free and open to all Cal Poly students.
"Cal Poly's Greek community is very excited about the coming events and we hope that the community will get involved and join us," said Interfraternity Council publicity chair Kevin Coates.
