Cal Poly Business Students to Host Tri-Counties Blood Drive May 3
Delta Sigma Pi Asks "Are You My Type?"
SAN LUIS OBISPO - Cal Poly's oldest professional business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi, will host the Second Annual Tri-Counties Blood Drive on the university's Mott Lawn, Tuesday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The blood drive is open to the public and will include free food, beverages and a raffle.
Delta Sigma Pi Senior Vice President, Will Hills , is excited about the blood drive given the success of the 2004 event. "Last year we had to turn people away from the drive, so this year we made arrangements for additional facilities to accommodate everyone who wants to donate," said Hills. "It's going to be great for Cal Poly, the Tri-Counties Blood Bank and our community."
Delta Sigma Pi anticipates collecting over 100 units of blood, more than twice the amount of blood collected at the fraternity's 2004 First Annual Blood Drive.
"We're hoping this is more than just an opportunity to help our community - we've planned it to be an event. Students and community members can come to donate, hang out, admire our clever T-shirts and eat," said Catheryn Solon, vice president of community service.
This year's staff members will wear shirts sporting the phrase "Are you my type?" with a winking drop of blood. Plans for selling the shirts at the blood drive are in the works.
