SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly will host the fourth annual Arts Education Conference for parents, teachers and others involved in arts education Saturday, Oct. 23.

The day-long event, to be Chumash Auditorium in the University Union, is sponsored by the Liberal Studies Department’s newly created Central Coast Center for Arts Education.

The conference includes a morning and afternoon workshop on such topics as:

· Teaching tolerance through dance and movement with Diana Cummings,

The Washington Preparatory High School Gospel Choir from South Central Los Angeles will provide a lunch-hour performance that is free and open to the public.

Workshops are designed to provide standards-based lessons for immediate use and are led by professional art educators, according to Susan Duffy, head of the Liberal Studies Department.

The cost is $40 for the conference and all materials and $10 for lunch. Workshops are open to community members interested in arts education and should be of particular interest to public and private school teachers, parents involved with home-schooling, pre-school teachers and child-care
