ASI Events Presents Cal Poly's Student Art Group's Exhibit
"Wish You Were Here" Nov. 19 - Dec. 6

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- An art exhibit featuring Cal Poly students' postcard- themed art will be on display Nov. 19 through Dec. 9 in the UU Gallery.

The exhibit, titled "Wish You Were Here," is sponsored by Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) Events. Admission is free; UU Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.

ASI Events will host a free opening reception Friday, November 19, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. in the UU Gallery. The artists will be present for questions and discussion. The event is open to all and complimentary refreshments will be served.

The exhibit features collages, hand drawings and other mixed media works created by a group of business and engineering students, who call themselves "Teamwork."

The art on display is inspired by modern marketing, the Dada art movement, faith and street art. Teamwork was created in April 2004 by four Cal Poly students as a creative outlet.

The students' artistic works are part of a "reactionary effort against the profiteering and mass production that pervade (the) culture," according to members. The group refers to themselves as Teamwork because their work is a collaborative effort. Anyone submitting a postcard is considered a member of Teamwork.

Although the four student artists would like to remain anonymous until the show's opening, interviews are available upon request."Teamwork desires to separate commercialism from art by voluntarily relinquishing individual ownership. We believe that art is owned by humanity most of all, and we seek to acknowledge that through personal anonymity," the group spokesperson said.

Through their multi-media artwork, the students hope to challenge conventional notions about the ownership of art and the purpose of communication.

"Art should be relevant, impactful and sometimes dangerous," one of the group members said.

The UU Gallery is located on the second floor of the University Union in the Epicenter. For more information about the artists, visit weareteamwork.com.ASI Events and UU Gallery regularly seek out student art for display. All mediums are welcome.
