Buy Tickets to Both, Receive Discount
SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly Music Department is sponsoring performances by Cantorion Colin Jones - The North Wales Male Chorus on Thursday, Oct. 28, and the Cal Poly Choirs on Saturday, Oct. 30, with a special discount given to patrons buying tickets to both.
Both the North Wales Male Chorus concert and the Cal Poly Choirs’ Fall Debut Concert will be at 8 p.m. in Harman Hall of the Christopher Cohan Center.
The North Wales Male Chorus is considered one of that country’s most prestigious male concert choirs. The group has been described as “young in age, but long in experience and expertise, providing a unique and highly entertaining sound.”
Directed by one of Wales' foremost musicians, Colin Jones, the concert will be an opportunity to hear the very best in a long tradition of Welsh male voice singing.
The performance is a benefit for the Cal Poly Choirs’ and Wind Ensemble's European tour to Vienna, Budapest, Prague and Salzburg in the summer of 2006.
The Cal Poly Choirs’ Fall Debut Concert will include the 70-member University Singers performing the up-tempo, rhythmic “Jubilate Deo” by Steven Burnett, followed by R. Scott Coulter’s rendition of the Robert Burns’ poem, “Oh, My Love’s Like a Red, Red Rose.” The ensemble will also perform Victor Paranjoti’s “Dravidian Dithyramb” and will close with Rosephanye Powell’s “The Word Was God.”
PolyPhonics will perform works by Johannes Brahms, Claude Debussy and David Conti. Brahm’s “Nächtens” (Night Visions) is a perfect piece for Halloween. Conti’s “O Sun” is a moving piece in honor of those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks.
Cal Poly Vocal Jazz and the Cal Poly barbershop quartets will also perform. Music Professor Thomas Davies conducts the choirs.
Individual ticket prices for both events are $10 to $12 for general admission, $8 to $10 for senior citizens and $6 for students. A $3 discount will be offered to those who buy tickets to both events at the same time.
