Kick Off the Holiday Season with Windam Hill at the PAC Nov. 14
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- With a warm welcome to the holidays, a
showcase of premier Windham Hill acoustic artists will be featured
in “A
Winter Solstice Concert” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 14,
2004 at the
Cohan Center.
Cal Poly Arts presents the elegant, New Age Windham Hill Winter
Solstice
afternoon, with such name artists as Windham Hill founder and steel
string guitarist Will Ackerman, pianist Liz Story, guitarist David
Cullen, and multi-instrumentalist Samite.
Will Ackerman has recorded 10 well-received solo CDs over the years
and
has performed at many concert halls throughout the world. He is
currently touring in support of his 11th release on Windham Hill,
the
Grammy-nominated “Hearing Voices.”
In addition to recording, Ackerman served as Artistic Director
of the
Windham Hill label, signing George Winston, Michael Hedges, Shadowfax,
Liz Story, and Tuck and Patti. He also created the massively successful
“Windham Hill Samplers” and “Winter’s Solstice”
collections.
Pianist Liz Story has long been at the vanguard of contemporary
instrumental music. She has been winning fans worldwide with her
original compositions, her interpretations of jazz and pop standards,
and her interspersed wry humor.
Windham Hill released “Welcome Home – The Best Of Liz Story” in 2001.
New Age African vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Samite will
perform
an evocative solo set, working on a “kalimba” (finger
piano), “marimba”
(wooden xylophone), and flutes. With over eight recordings, Samite
is
one of the most loved African musicians in contemporary music.
Guitarist David Cullen creates a unique blend of classical, jazz
and
world music and has gained a strong reputation for his improvisational
and interpretive insights. A popular touring artist, Cullen records
for
Solid Air Records and was recently featured on the 25 year guitar
retrospective CD from Windham Hill, entitled “Touch.”
