Hit Musical 'STOMP' Returns to Cal Poly Performing Arts Center

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- After playing to sold-out crowds for over
nine seasons -- including two sold-out San Luis Obispo runs -- the
worldwide percussion sensation STOMP returns to the Christopher Cohan
Center on Saturday and Sunday, April 3 and 4, 2004.

Cal Poly Arts is pleased to bring back the show New York Magazine
calls "a theatrical spectacle" for three performances: Saturday, April
3, at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. and on Sunday, April 4 at 3 p.m.

"STOMP is exhilarating, exuberant, exhausting. Absolutely fabulous."
(San Jose Mercury News)

"A sure-fire crowd pleaser. STOMP is banged, tapped, swished, clicked
and clomped with an entrancing charm and a rock-and-roll heart." (The
New York Times)

STOMP's New York company is now in its tenth year at The Orpheum
Theatre. From its beginnings as a street performance in the UK, STOMP
has grown into an international phenomenon, having performed in over 350
cities in 36 countries worldwide.

"The young performers make a rhythm out of anything we can get our hands
on that makes a sound," says co-creator/director Luke Cresswell. "Stiff-
bristle brooms become a sweeping orchestra; Zippo lighters flip open and
closed to create a fiery fugue; wooden poles thump and clack in a
rhythmic explosion.

"STOMP uses everything but conventional percussion instruments –
trashcans, tea chests, plastic bags, plungers, boots, and hubcaps – to
fill the stage with compelling and infectious rhythms. "

STOMP, directed and created by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, is
the winner of London's Olivier Award for Best Choreography, a New York
Obie Award, a Drama Desk Award for "Unique Theatre Experience," and a
Special Citation from Best Plays.

Tickets for the performance range from $42 - $54, with student discounts
available, and may be purchased at the Performing Arts Ticket Office, 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. To order by
