Cal Poly Selects Three Outstanding Staff Members for 2004
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Cal Poly has selected three longtime employees to
receive the 2003-2004 Outstanding Staff Award.

2003-04 Outstanding Cal Poly Staff are: (Clockwise from the top) Lori La Vine, Bob Pinkin, and Carol Erikson
The winners are Carol Erickson, administrative coordinator in the Statistics Department; Lori La Vine, instructional technician in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department and a California State Employees Association steward; Bob Pinkin, equipment technician in the Graphic Communication Department.
Erickson, of San Luis Obispo, has been at Cal Poly for 14 years. Nominators said, “She is always pleasant, patient and enthusiastic, and if she were more efficient, a fusion reaction might spontaneously take place.”
La Vine, also of San Luis Obispo, came to Cal Poly in 1989 and
was recognized for her “leadership as a staff member in an
academic unit, dedication, initiative, perseverance, and her promotion
of safety
awareness on and off campus.”
Pinkin, of Atascadero, is celebrating his 17th year at the university. “He is respected not only for his skill and expertise, but more importantly for his character, integrity, work ethic and attitude in relating to the people around him,” according to a colleague.
The winners are nominated by faculty and staff members and reviewed by
a
committee composed of former award recipients. Cal Poly President Warren
J. Baker selects the winners on the basis of the committee’s
recommendations.
