Cal Poly Continuing Education Awarded $50,000 Grant
To Create the Central Valley Technology Initiative

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA -- Cal Poly Continuing Education has been awarded a
$50,000 grant from the California State University Commission on the
Extended University for a technology initiative that would expand
computer and technology training programs in the Central Valley.

The Central Valley Technology Initiative (CVTI) is being developed as a
partnership among Cal Poly, the International Agri-Center, Tulare County
Economic Development Corp. and other community groups in the Central
Valley.

“The purpose of the CVTI is to develop and implement computer and
technology training programs for the agricultural business and corporate
sector in the Central Valley, identify specific areas where computer and
technology training is needed, and develop and implement training
programs for the general public,” said Dennis “Skip” Parks, dean of
Continuing Education. The grant will partly fund CVTI’s first year of
operations.

“Rapid economic development in Tulare County will depend on the
agriculture industry’s ability to implement computers and technology in
their operations,” Parks said. “Cal Poly is helping create the CVTI to
properly train the local work force in various technology applications,
allowing the Central Valley to expand economic and business
development.”

Cal Poly Continuing Education is a self-supporting unit in the Academic
Affairs division. It provides professional and lifelong learning
opportunities to residents throughout California. For more information
