KCBX Donates Books to Kennedy Library
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- A chance conversation between neighbors netted Cal
Poly’s Kennedy Library a treasure trove of current books, according
to
Carol Pendergast, advancement director for the library.
Guy Rathbun, program manager of public radio station KCBX in San Luis
Obispo and Santa Barbara counties, mentioned to library staff member
Carol Schuldt that KCBX had a plethora of books and nowhere to put them.
“As a result of two KCBX programs, 'Turning Pages,' devoted to
books, and
the more politically oriented, 'An Evening With,' publicists inundate
the station with choice reads,” Pendergast said. “New publications
of
all types, from Tracy Kidder’s ‘Mountains Beyond Mountains’
to Richard
Pollak’s ‘The Colombo Bay,’ will now have a home and
eager readers at
the Kennedy Library.
“KCBX has generously agreed to funnel its steady supply of reading
materials to Cal Poly. Their gifts will be marked with a bookplate
acknowledging the station’s generosity, and users of the Library
database, PolyCAT, will be able to search the KCBX Collection to find
all of the titles donated.”
