ASI Events Presents Student Paul Barrett's Artwork
In Summer Show in the University Union Gallery

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Associated Students, Inc. (ASI)
Events will display fourth-year Cal Poly art and design student Paul
Barrett's works in a show running June 3 - Oct. 1 in the UU Gallery, located in the
UU Epicenter. Admission is free and hours are from 8 a.m. to 8
p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays until
June 11. Beginning June 14, summer hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Mondays through Thursdays.

An opening reception for the exhibit, titled "Wearing Shoes with No Socks in Cold Weather" is
Thursday, June 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be free refreshments,
music and the opportunity to meet the artist and read his short stories.
Barrett's show is a thought-provoking display of 50 small bodies of
text that are accompanied by images. "I am constantly collecting phrases
from various sources that appeal to me in one way or another - newspaper
headlines, lyrics, bits of overheard conversation," Barrett says.

The idea for this show started when Barrett took 100 phrases that
he had collected and compiled them into a book called, "One Day, there
won't be Anything Left to Complain About." To add to his book, he has
drawn pictures that go along with some of his most absurd ramblings and
turned them into an art exhibit.

show, contact Natalie Mathews, student supervisor of UU Gallery, at
