What: Will be available for individual media interviews

When: 11:15 a.m. Saturday, June 12, between Cal Poly morning and
afternoon commencement ceremonies

Where: In the Albert B. Smith Alumni and Conference Center, corner of
Crandall and Campus Way. (Take the California Boulevard entrance to campus;
turn right into the parking lot for the ASI Orfalea Children’s Center.
The Alumni Center is directly across Crandall Way from the Children’s
Center. Metered parking is available at the Children’s Center and also
next to the Alumni Center. Spanos and Gibson will be available for media
questions at 11:15 a.m. on the back patio of the Smith Center.

Why: If you want to get photos of or interviews with Cal Poly’s two
commencement speakers, Hoot Gibson or Alex Spanos. Both will also
receive honorary degrees from Cal Poly June 12.

More Details: If you’re covering commencement in Mustang Stadium, you
are welcome to park in the C-3 staff lot behind Heron Hall, where Public
Affairs is located. It’s the closest parking available. (Take the
California Boulevard entrance to Campus Way; take the first available left
into the C-3 driveway entrance.)

Ceremonies begin at 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and grad candidates gather and
line up in their caps and gowns roughly an hour beforehand at various
locations across campus to march down South Perimeter Drive and into
Mustang Stadium. There are roughly 3,400 candidates eligible for degrees
Saturday before an expected 15,000 family, friends and visitors.
