City of San Luis Obispo Has Closed Foothill Boulevard
Between Santa Rosa and Casa Streets
SAN LUIS OBISPO – The city of San Luis Obispo closed Foothill Boulevard to vehicles between Santa Rosa and Casa streets today (Friday, July 16). The area is scheduled to remain closed for road work through March 2005.
The
closure will allow for complete repair of Foothill Boulevard, bringing
it back to four lanes (with center turn lanes) after two years of two-lane
traffic.
During the project:
• The temporary bridge on Foothill will be completely replaced.
• There will be pedestrian access on Foothill throughout the project, but cars headed to the Cal Poly campus will need to take alternate routes: either Highland Drive or Grand Avenue.
• California Boulevard at the campus entry is undergoing a project extending it to Highland Drive and will be subject to detours and traffic delays until completion in fall 2004. Highland Drive and Grand Avenue are the recommended alternate routes onto campus until that time. Check the California Blvd. Extension Project site for details: http://www.facilities.calpoly.edu/Facilities_Planning/
• Signs will be posted to warn commuters of the closure and directing them to take alternate routes.
City bus routes will be altered to accommodate those routes affected by this closure.
“This is a great opportunity to consider alternative transportation to campus such as riding the bus, biking, walking or carpooling,” said Bonnie Lowe, project information coordinator in Cal Poly’s Facilities Planning Department. For more information please call (805) 756-6680.
