Learn Life-saving Skills and Earn Certification
in Cal Poly Wilderness Safety Class Feb. 7-8

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Poly Escapes, a program of
Associated Students, Inc. (ASI), is hosting the Wilderness Medical
Institute to present a Wilderness First Aid training course.

This course is perfect for anyone who spends time outdoors, as the skills
learned here could save a life someday. The emphasis of this course is
on decision-making and principles of treatment, not on memorization of
lists. Special topics include, but are not limited to, wound management
and infection, realignment of fractures and dislocations, and improvised
splinting techniques. This course does not include CPR.

"I took the class last spring, and two or three weeks after the class I
had to use the skills I acquired there to get a friend out of the back
country. I would have been lost without it," said Jeb Moore, a Poly
Escapes officer and trip leader. This course is taught by professionals
from the Wilderness Medical Institute and will take place February 7-8
in the University Union at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

Cost is $110 for Cal Poly students and $145 for general public, and all ability levels
are welcome. Space is limited. To sign up or for more information,
contact Poly Escapes at (805) 756-1287.
