Cal Poly to Host Philosophy Speakers Forum Jan. 30
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- The public is invited to a speakers forum at Cal Poly
Jan. 30 featuring distinguished philosophy professors from across the
nation.
William Lane Craig, professor of philosophy from the Talbot School of
Theology, will speak at noon on “Is One True Religion Even Possible?”
In his book, “God, Time and Eternity,” Craig brings together
discussions of the philosophy of time, space, language, phenomenology
and science with the concerns of religion and theology.
Alvin Plantinga, professor of philosophy from Notre Dame, will present
“Against Materialism” at 1:30 p.m. Plantinga has more than
100 articles published in a variety of academic publications. He is the
author of “Warrant: the Current Debate,” and “Warrant
and Proper Function.”
Richard Gale, professor of philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh,
will give the final talk at 3 p.m. on “The Ecumenicalism of William
James.” Gale, considered a foremost authority on American psychologist
and philosopher James, is author of “The Divided Self of William
James.”
The talks will be held in the University Union, Room 220. The forum is
sponsored by the Cal Poly Philosophy Department and the College of Liberal
Arts. All talks are free and open to the public.
