Cal Poly University Jazz Band To Play Swing-Era Music To Dance By
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- The public is invited to a dance concert Feb. 13 featuring
original swing-era tunes played by the Cal Poly University Jazz Band No.
1.
The dance, the third in a series of five, will be from 8 to 11 p.m. in
Chumash Auditorium at Cal Poly. Free swing dance lessons will be given
at 7 p.m. The next two concerts will be April 9 and May 14.
The University Jazz Band will perform authentic big-band classics, suitable
for dancing or listening, according to director Paul Rinzler.
The University Jazz Band has been performing swing dance concerts for
years, including a series at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, one of the biggest
traditional jazz and big-band festivals in the world.
Admission to the dance is $7 for the public and $5 for students. The event
is sponsored by the Cal Poly Music Department, College of Liberal Arts
and the Instructionally Related Activities program. For more information,
