SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Members of Omicron Gamma, Cal Poly's chapter of the
national political science honor society Pi Sigma Alpha, will hold a public
forum in Cal Poly's Chumash Auditorium March 1 to provide community members
and students an opportunity to meet candidates running
for local office and register to vote.
The event runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is divided into two 1-1/2 hour panels, during which candidates will answer questions from San Luis Obispo County residents and Cal Poly students.
Dean Tiernan of KVEC radio will moderate the event. Scheduled speakers include State Assembly candidates Sam Blakeslee (Republican), Matt T. Kokkonen (Republican), Mike Zimmerman (Republican), Tom Hutchings (Green) and Gary Kirkland (Libertarian).
Don Regan (Republican) and Michael Favorite (Libertarian), running for the 23rd Congressional District seat, are also scheduled to attend.
Throughout the event, attendees will be able to register to vote. A brief
description of the registration process will be given and attendees will
be able to inquire about absentee ballots and ask other
voter registration-related questions.
The evening is sponsored by Omicron Gamma and Cal Poly's Political Science Club, which is organizing the voter registration drive.
