Eroica Trio Plays Cal Poly Theatre March 7

SAN LUIS OBISPO-- Labeled as "technically brilliant" by the
Vienna press, the Grammy-nominated Eroica Trio will bring their expert
musicianship to the Cal Poly Theatre on Sunday, March 7, 2004, at 7 p.m.

Cal Poly Arts proudly presents the Trio in an evening program that
includes Beethoven's charming "Trio in B-flat major, Op. 11," Dvorak's
pensive "Trio in E minor ('Dumky')," and a newly-commissioned piece by
the acclaimed violinist/composer Mark O'Connor.

Audiences around the world respond with standing ovations to what
critics call the raw driven energy and high spirits of the Eroica Trio:
Erika Nickrenz (piano), Adela Pena (violin), and Sara Sant'Ambrogio
(cello).

The Eroica Trio is on the vanguard of a new generation of artists who
are changing the face of classical music. One of the first all-female
chamber ensembles to reach the top echelons of their field, the Eroica
Trio is helping to break an age-old gender barrier.

Whether they are playing the great standards of the piano trio
repertoire or daring contemporary works, the three young women who make
up this world-class chamber ensemble fill the concert stage with their
combination of technical virtuosity, vivid artistic interpretation, and
contagious exuberance in performance.

The Trio won the prestigious 1991 Naumburg Award, resulting in an
acclaimed Lincoln Center Debut and has since toured the United States,
Europe, and Asia. The Trio continues to perform recitals throughout the
world and their five celebrated recordings for Angel/EMI Classics
Records have garnered multiple Grammy nominations.

Highlights of the 2003-2004 season include tours of the United States
with the Prague Chamber Orchestra and Cincinnati Symphony, performing
the Beethoven "Triple Concerto;" the release of the Trio's sixth
recording of the "Triple Concerto" with the Prague Chamber Orchestra;
and the world premiere of a new work composed for the trio by Mark O'Connor.

The Eroica Trio performs the Beethoven "Triple Concerto" more frequently
than any other trio in the world, having appeared with the symphonies of
Chicago, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, San Francisco, Utah, Mostly
Mozart Orchestra, Cincinnati, Houston and Seattle, among others.

The Trio has also performed the work on tour abroad with Orquesta
Sinfonica de Euskadi in Spain, Haydn Orchestra in Italy, and Budapest
Symphony in Germany. In March, 2003, the Trio appeared on the German
television program "Klassich!" performing the "Triple Concerto" with the
Munich Symphony. The program will air in Austria, Germany and
Switzerland in the fall.

Each summer, the Trio performs at music festivals throughout the world,
including the Hollywood Bowl, Aspen, Mostly Mozart, Ravinia, and
Spoleto, Italy.

In addition to demanding concert and recording schedules, the Eroica
Trio is committed to music education, giving concerts, master-classes
and shows specifically geared toward children at elementary schools and
colleges throughout the country.

The Eroica Trio has appeared on numerous television programs including
ABC’s "The View," CNN’s "Showbiz Today" and "Worldbeat," CBS and ABC
News, "CBS Saturday Morning," A&E's "Breakfast with the Arts," The
Oxygen Network, Bloomberg TV, and Fox’s "The Crier Report."

They have been featured in publications such as Elle, Glamour, Vanity
Fair, Detour, Marie Claire, Bon Appétit, and Time Out New York. Grand
Marnier distillers created a new cocktail dubbed "The Eroica," unveiled
for the release of their "Pasion" recording.

Chateau Ste Michelle, a vineyard in Seattle, also named one of their
vintage reislings in honor of the Trio.

Tickets for the performance are $28 & $34, with student discounts
available, and may be purchased at the Performing Arts Ticket Office, 10
