WOW Team Gets Ready for New Students
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Cal Poly Week of Welcome (WOW) organizers will
soon train a new team of student volunteers to lead campus orientation
activities next fall.
The university's orientation programs have announced the selection
of Team WOW 2005, a group of 40 to 50 students who will volunteer
their time to train orientation leaders and plan presentations for
new students and for leaders-in-training (LITs). The team will also
organize fundraisers, recruit potential orientation leaders and
plan and publicize events and entertainment for new students.
Team members will be activated for WOW Spring Training, 10 weeks of preparation for potential orientation leaders. They will attend meetings every Tuesday night, a retreat and other training activities.
The team is led by a six-member executive board, also made up of student volunteers. The board will train Team WOW volunteers during winter quarter to prepare them for their roles in the spring. Executive board members are Amber DeGelia, Angie Eckhardt, Casey Blalock, Jason Mockford, Leah Robinson and Mike Gregory. Team WOW members must have been an orientation leader at least once, have a minimum cumulative 2.3 GPA, complete a three-part application and agree to adhere to the WOW Code of Ethics.
WOW is one of the largest student-run college orientation programs in the nation. For more information, go to http://www.orientation.calpoly.edu/wow/.
