WOW Rally (Recreation Center, 9-10 a.m. & 10:15-11:15 a.m.)

New students will be introduced to their new school in a rally-like setting. They’ll learn about Cal Poly Athletics and WOW. Then they’ll scramble to find the WOW group they’ll spend the entire week with.

WOW-a-rama (Sports Complex, 7:30-9:30 p.m.)
The largest get-acquainted social on the Central Coast. Come witness thousands of students mingle as they play games and interact with one another. This social is a riot to watch whether you’re in the midst of the action or observing from afar. Imagine watching thousands of people moving and shaking, dancing and jumping, yelling and screaming.

Tuesday, September 14
SLO Bound (Downtown San Luis Obispo, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.)

WOW offers a unique opportunity for new students to get to know the San Luis Obispo downtown area. Dozens of SLO businesses have cooperated to welcome WOWies into SLO’s business district. The event starts off with a barbecue at Mitchell Park. WOW groups then venture into participating businesses before finishing up by meeting more businesses in a carnival-like setting at Mission Plaza.
Your Vote, Your Voice Registration Drive (University Union, 2-7 p.m.)

Join us as we register hundreds of new students to vote in their new community. Last year during our first registration drive we successfully registered more than 500 students. Guest speakers include San Luis Obispo Mayor Dave Romero and Cal Poly ASI President Blake Bolton.

Wednesday, September 15
PREFACE Shared Reading Program (Various Campus Locations, 8:30-10 a.m.)

For the very first year all new students will participate in a book discussion with trained discussion leaders. Doris Haddock’s Granny D: You’re Never Too Old to Raise a Little Hell will motivate students to go out and make a difference. Go Granny Go!

Thursday, September 16
Another Type of Groove: WOW Style (Cal Poly Theatre, 8-11 p.m.)

WOW and Cal Poly’s Multicultural Center will celebrate diversity during a night of spoken word, slam poetry and comic relief. The event will begin with SoulSpeak Collective, Cal Poly’s spoken word group. Slam Poetry champions Marc Bamuthi Joseph and Mike McGee will then take the stage to woo us with their poetic styles. You’ve never heard rhymes like this before!

Friday, September 17
Community Service (Various Community Locations, 1-4 p.m.)

For the very first time, WOW has implemented a day of service within the community. More than 70 WOW groups (approximately 700-1100 students) have volunteered to groom local garden projects, collect canned food for needy populations and provide staffing at local programs. This day will provide an invaluable service to the community and begin to enrich the college careers of the new students by showing them how they can make a difference while at Cal Poly.

Story of the Year Concert (ASI Recreation Center, 8-11 p.m.)
ASI Events and WOW have teamed up to provide a memorable closing to this year’s orientation festivities. Alternative punk band Story of the Year will be the headliner as they begin their tour at Cal Poly for this WOW-exclusive concert. They’ll play their current smash hit “Anthem of a Dying Day” along with other songs from their debut album Page Avenue. Punk band Letter Kills will open up this explosive concert.
