Limited Summer Session Enrollment Coming at Cal
Poly –
University Aiding Student Summer Registration at Local Community Colleges
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly will be working with local community
colleges
over the next few weeks to aid students in need of summer session
classes.
The university announced in February that due to state budget cuts, it
will offer only a limited 2004 summer term. Cal Poly has also cut its
printed version of the summer class schedule this year, according to
Vice Provost for Academic Programs and Undergraduate Education David
Conn. In light of the few courses offered at Cal Poly through the
university’s scaled-back summer term, “It just was not cost-effective
to
print a schedule,” Conn explained.
Instead, the schedule is available only online at:
http://www.ess.calpoly.edu/_records/summer_schedule/index.htm
“We do need to get the word out and let students know that the
summer
2004 course schedule is available now, but available online only,”
Conn
stressed.
Cal Poly officials have also worked with Cuesta College in San Luis
Obispo and Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, both of which have
expanded their own summer course offerings.
Hancock and Cuesta are offering lower-division general education courses
on their campuses as well as distance-education (online) courses that
students will be able to transfer to Cal Poly for credit, Conn said. Cal
Poly students who have not previously attended Hancock or Cuesta will
also need to file an official admissions application in order to
register for classes at those colleges, Conn noted.
Cuesta and Hancock college representatives will be on campus from 11
a.m. to noon in Cal Poly’s University Union plaza April 29, May
11 and
May 20 to help students register for their summer sessions.
Hancock’s summer registration begins May 3, and summer session
classes
begin there June 21. Students can apply and register through Hancock’s
Web site at http://www.hancockcollege.edu/.
Cuesta College summer registration begins May 10, and classes begin at
its San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles campuses June 14. Students can apply
and register online through Cuesta’s Web site at http://www.cuesta.edu/.
Cal Poly’s summer 2004 enrollment period starts May 3. The university
is
offering three summer sessions: a 10-week session June 21-Aug. 27; a
five-week session June 21-July 23; and second five-week session, July
26-Aug. 27.
Students can find more summer session information and links to Cuesta
and Allan Hancock colleges on the Academic Programs Office Summer 2004
