‘Respect for Others in Our Search for Truth’ Title of April 26 Talk at Cal Poly
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly lecturer Kevin B. Fagan will present ‘Respect for Others in Our Search for Truth’ at 7 p.m. April 26 in Philips Hall in the Performing Arts Center.
Fagan, who teaches Spanish, philosophy and religious studies, is a native of Dublin, Ireland. As an undergraduate, he studied in Ireland, Spain and Italy.
Professionally he has served as a teacher, youth counselor, academic dean, and school principal in the areas of bilingual education, cross-cultural communication and philosophy of religion.
In 1998 he earned a doctorate in liberal studies with an emphasis in philosophy from the University of Dallas, Texas.
His doctoral dissertation, titled, “A Toast to Conscience: Freedom of Conscience in John H. Newman, “was inspired by the control, coercion and censorship that he has witnessed. He also wrote, in Spanish, “Conquering Is Not Convincing: Freedom of Conscience in Miguel de Unamuno.”
Fagan speaks Gaelic, Spanish and Italian, as well as English, and reads
French, Latin and Greek. He is a member of the American Association of
Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, the John H. Newman Association, Amnesty
International and the South-West Council on Latin American
Studies.
