Riverdale Resident Selected Cal Poly Outstanding Student Employee
of the
Year
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly senior Michael James Brughelli was recently
selected Cal Poly’s 2003-2004 Outstanding Student Employee of the
Year
for the quality and quantity of his work as well as for the positive
impact he has on literally hundreds of employees.
Brughelli, who hails from Riverdale, oversees the Associated Students
Inc. Recreational Sports' sport club program, which operates much like
a
Division III athletics program. ASI has 17 teams, of which approximately
11 are ranked nationally, and three have earned national champion
status.
As student manager of the collegiate sports program, Brughelli is
responsible for coordinating, managing, supervising, scheduling and
developing a program with more than 700 athletes, including its
standards of care for safety and risk management.
“In addition to his responsibilities and achievements, Brughelli
enjoys
a great deal of respect from his co-workers,” said a member of the
selection committee.
Brughelli, a senior majoring in agricultural business with a minor in
wine and viticulture,
was nominated by ASI Rec Sports staff members and unanimously selected
from a pool of 37 nominees. He and all the nominees will be recognized
at a campus reception April 15.
Brughelli’s nomination was forwarded to a regional competition sponsored
by the Western Association of Student Employment Administrators. The
winners of the regional and national competitions will be announced
during National Student Employment Week, April 11-17.
