Cal Poly, Cal State San Bernardino To Join in Musical Weekend May 7-8
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- The Cal Poly Music Department will host the 4th
collaborative meeting between the Cal Poly and Cal State San Bernardino
guitar ensembles on Friday and Saturday, May 7-8, when students from
both universities will gather on campus for a weekend of rehearsals, a
master class and recital.
On Saturday, May 8, Cal Poly guitar instructor Jesús Saiz-Huedo
and
Stuart Green of CSUSB will conduct a master class featuring student solo
performances from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 216 of the Davidson Music
Center.
Saturday at 7 p.m., the Combined Guitar Ensemble, directed by
Saiz-Huedo, will play a recital in Room 218 of the Davidson Music
Center. It will feature ensemble and solor pieces by composers
Francesco Da Milano, Manuel Ponce, Dusan Bogdanovic, Egberto Gismonti,
Isaac Albeniz, Agustín Barrios, Scott Joplin and Celso Machado.
The collaboration between Cal Poly and CSUSB began in 2002, when
Saiz-Huedo and Green decided to exchange ideas and work together on
common goals. “Since then, three student gatherings for recitals
and
master classes have established an ongoing source of motivation and
successful experiences for students at both universities,” Saiz-Huedo
said.
The Combined Guitar Ensemble has played recitals at Cal Poly and at the
San Bernardino campus, as well as at the La Guitarra California Guitar
Festival at Cuesta College. The ensemble has also performed in master
classes by Saiz-Huedo, Green and the Katona Twins.
Both the master class and recital are free and open to the public. All
events are sponsored by the Cal Poly and Cal State San Bernardino music
departments and colleges of liberal arts. For more information, contact
