Cal Poly Arts Series: Leland Faulkner to Perform Two Family Shows in January
Ground-breaking visual theatre artist
Leland Faulkner will perform two shows on Sunday, January 13, 2002, at 3p.m. and
6:30 p.m., in the Christopher Cohan Center Pavilion. The performances are
presented by Cal Poly Arts as part of their popular, low-cost Family Series.
Mr. Faulkner entertains audiences of all ages with a theatrical feast of classic conjuring, fantastic tales, light-hearted humor, pantomime,
and stunning shadow play. The Duxbury Clipper called his shows "..mesmerizing in (their) seeming simplicity and inspiring in (their)
beauty and creativity."
Mr. Faulkner's unique visual theatre explores the magic of dreams, of
ritual, and of myth. He combines special stage effects with Japanese
art forms, shadow theater, illusion, original works, and folk tales from
around the world.
Paper becomes filled with movement as butterflies dance and multiply;
shadows take on a life of their own in an imaginative exploration of
light. The creative use of visual effects gives the audience a new
look at an ancient art.
Pavilion seating is general admission/open seating. Additional areas
have been designated for audiences to bring their own pillows for a
comfortable floor seating experience. Doors will open 30 minutes prior
to each performance.
Tickets for both performances are $15 general/$12 student and may be
purchased at Performing Arts Ticket Office, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays
and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. To order by phone, call 805/SLO-ARTS
(756-2787); to order by fax: (805) 756-6088.
