FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Cal Poly's Campus Dining department was recognized
for outstanding efforts to reduce waste and protect the environment in
the 2001 Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP).
The award is sponsored by the California Integrated Waste Management
Board, the state's primary recycling agency and part of the California
Environmental Protection Agency.
Now in its ninth year, the WRAP awards recognize businesses for cutting
the amount of trash they produce, conserving resources and reducing
waste disposal in landfills. A record number of businesses applied for
and received the award this year -- nearly 2,350 statewide were named
winners.
The WRAP awards recognize companies that develop creative and
aggressive programs to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills and
are based on a set of criteria developed in cooperation with the
business community. Practices evaluated include waste prevention,
materials reuse, recycling, recycled-product procurement and employee
education.
For more information about Campus Dining's waste reduction efforts,
call Alan Cushman, associate director, at 756-1175.
